Septet Hermanns Aug 2016

The Nick La Riviere Septet

Saturday August 13, Hermann’s Jazz Club, Victoria 8PM

It’s been a very busy summer so far for me. It began with a tour of Germany, Italy, Switzerland, and Luxembourg with Locarno. The busy summer continued with a ton of local shows right away after I got back to Victoria, and it’s been pretty non-stop.

Coming up on August 13th, I’m putting on a show with The Nick La Riviere Septet. I created this band back in 2009 when I released my album Too Much To Do, which received plenty of positive press. The band features a unique instrumentation rarely seen in a jazz group. Two violins, cello, piano, bass, and drums – with me on trombone, conch shells, and occasionally singing a tune. For those of you who have seen my new 5 piece band, you know that I’ve started to explore more of a funk-pop style of music, and I’ve been doing a lot more singing.. but this band focuses more on the instrumental jazz aspect of the music I play. We’ll still mix it up with a few vocals, different genres, and I’m even working on lining up some great special guests for a couple of tunes, but the show will focus on some chops-heavy jazzy trombone, backed up by some great players. We’ll have Richard Moody and Julian Vitek on violins, Alasdair Money on cello, Aidan Miller on piano, Sean Drabitt on bass, and Damian Graham on drums. The tunes will include original jazz, twisted arrangements of standards, and a bit of mixing up the genres.  Special guests: Lauren Marshall, Deven Miles, Heather La Riviere, Allie George.

Reservations are highly recommended, and can be made online here – http://hermannsjazz.com/show/418721/view

The Ashley Wey Trio
+ Nick La Riviere

Sunday, August 7th, 7:30pm
Hermann’s Jazz Club

Ashley is a great pianist and singer, who Victorians don’t get to see often enough… She spends most of the year performing around the world on cruise ships with her trio.

I’ll be joining her for a special performance at Hermann’s on August 7th during one of her brief breaks between contracts.  It’s going to be a great show, and reservations can be made here.
