Trombonist, singer, conch shell player, bass player, composer, arranger, band leader, Nick La Riviere is one of BC’s busiest freelance musicians. He performs with touring bands such as The Paperboys, Michael Kaeshammer, Locarno, The HiFi and more. When he’s not on the road he’s playing regular gigs at multiple Victoria venues with groups of varying genres, writing charts for bands like the Vic High R&B Band as well as many professional groups, running a small recording studio, and leading two adult community bands.
The Nick La Riviere band is his original project, featuring Nick on trombone played through a programmable harmonizer, vocals, and conch shells. Joining him are Vancouver’s Pedro Mota on guitar, Aidan Miller on piano and synth, Sean Drabitt on bass, and Damian Graham on drums.
The music is a racous mix of mainly originals, inspired by artists like Trombone Shorty, Paul Simon, Sam Cooke, Jamiroquai, and Ben Folds, as well as a few up beat covers. With the band’s muti-genre influences, there’s something for everyone. Whatever the band is playing, it’s all about the energy.
Last year Nick released his second album, Another Time Around. The album featured all original tracks with a variety of instrumentations. A music video for the single ‘Woohoo’ was also released – a high speed motorcycle chase, filmed partially by a flying drone camera. (music video: https://www.youtube.com/
